The Swiss national football team, featuring star Breel Embolo, is facing a significant challenge ahead of the World Cup 2026. The Rennes forward has been barred from entering the United States, where the team will compete. The Swiss federation confirmed that Embolo does not yet have authorization to travel, just nine days before the tournament begins. The player, who has stood out in various competitions, will not be able to join the team during their flight from Zurich to Los Angeles. The ESTA authorization, required for entry into the US, was initially approved, but the federation was informed that the process would undergo a supplementary verification. Breel Embolo, who was sentenced to 45 days of suspended fine for threats made in 2018, is awaiting clarification from the relevant authorities. Switzerland, which has reached the round of 16 in the last three World Cups, will debut in the tournament on June 13 against Qatar in San Francisco, in Group B, which also includes Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The World Cup 2026, taking place from June 11 to June 19, will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
